11 Principles Staff Development
The 11 Principles training is a 6 hour staff development session designed to understand the Principles and how they can be used to revolutionize school culture. During the session staff, which can include both certified and support, will engage in a number of hands-on activities, such as an Appreciative Inquiry, that will aid in determining the present status of the school’s culture and establish a vision and direction of where the school (or district) would like to proceed.

The R.O.A.D. Warrior - Principle 8
State Senator Dewayne Pemberton was the Principal of Muskogee High School when it became the first school in Oklahoma to be named a State and National School of Character in 2011. Though he retired after a 36 year career in education Dewayne sat down with us to talk about how important it is for schools to focus on developing a culture of character. He reflected on the impact of attending his first National Forum on Character and the vision it gave him for using Character.org’s 11 Principles to help revolutionize Muskogee High.
He also talked about specific examples of certain Principles, especially Principle 8 and the unique way it was addressed to promote an ethical learning community among the staff. As a member of OKcharacter.org’s Board of Directors, Dewayne still has a passion and desire for schools to be the best that they can be. |
